Datacap today announced the availability of Taskmaster for Medical Claims 6.2.
Formerly known as the Health Claims Capture System, Taskmaster for Medical
Claims automates the data entry of HCFA 1500 and UB-92 medical claims.
Customers, including HMO's, Blue Cross Blue Shield organizations, Preferred
Providers and Third Party Administrators, benefit with improved data accuracy,
reduced data entry cost and reduced process cycle time. Taskmaster For Medical
Claims features an enhanced rules-based architecture, providing users with
complete control over the full capture process - from scanning and recognition
to validations and export.
Taskmaster for Medical Claims draws on a library with hundreds of standard
Taskmaster "rules" - predefined sets of actions - that help control every
step in the capture process. Datacap has also developed rules that are
specific to the medical claims application.
Taskmaster rules are made up of individual
"actions." Although a user can assemble these actions into Rules via the
RuleManager user interface, each action is actually a Microsoft VBScript
function. That means an administrator or business analyst can add and change
rules in Taskmaster for Medical Claims, without any programming!
Browser-based data entry option. All validation rules work in a browser,
reducing management overhead when distributing work.
Availability
Datacap customers under maintenance can request the upgrade
for no additional cost by visiting the Datacap
website. A free webinar overview of Taskmaster for Medical Claims
is scheduled for Tuesday, March 8, 2005 at 2pm ET. Sign up

Datacap Sponsors New White Paper on Distributed Capture
by Harvey Spencer Associates
Learn how you can capture your dispersed documents more
efficiently with a free copy of the new White Paper written by Harvey
Spencer of Harvey Spencer Associates.
Harvey Spencer Associates (HSA) was founded in 1989 to provide
consulting and analyst services to companies involved in the scanning,
recognition and capture markets. Since then, many of the leading companies in
the capture market have been clients of HSA. Harvey Spencer is a well known
author and leading expert in the capture and forms processing markets.
The White Paper details every aspect of distributed capture,
including the various models of distributed capture that companies like SIRVA,
Merrill Lynch and Taylor Bean & Whitaker are using to save money and speed
processing time. It also features a checklist that you can use to determine if
Distributed Capture would benefit your organization.
To request a copy, visit the Datacap website. There's also a
free pre-recorded Webinar, "Understanding the Value of Distributed Capture,"
featuring Harvey Spencer, Datacap CEO Scott Blau, and Taylor Bean &
Whitaker's VP of New Product Development Doug Bowman, discussing the benefits.

Tips And Tricks
Working with Rules in Taskmaster
This is the first in a series on how to create and use a rules-based
application in Taskmaster. The Taskmaster rules architecture gives you the
flexibility of a custom solution, but without programming. Rules let you go
beyond simple validations of fields - they are used to control all background
processing activities, including image processing, page identification,
recognition and export formatting. Using RuleManager, you can create and modify
rules that accomplish exactly what you need with a simple Point and Click
interface.
What is a Rule?
Taskmaster's rules-based architecture breaks down the language
of programming into a library of easily managed code snippets, called Actions.
An Action is a logical query with a True or False answer, such as "Is the field
populated?" "Does the field contain exactly 9 characters?" or "Does
the field contain all numeric characters?"
A Rule is a container for one or more Actions. By stringing
Actions together inside a Rule, you can customize a capture system to do
virtually anything you want. For example, the three Actions above can be
assembled into a Rule to determine whether the Social Security Number on a Tax
Return has a valid format.
When this Rule is activated during the workflow, the first
Action asks, "Is the field populated?" If the answer is False, then
the rule fails. If it's True, then the next Action is triggered, "Does the
field contain exactly 9 characters?" Again, if False, the rule fails,
but if True, then the third Action is triggered, "Does the field contain all
numeric characters?"
If any of the Actions fail, then this SSN field is flagged
as invalid for review later in the process. However, if all Actions in the
Rule are True, all the desired characteristics of a Social Security Number
field are valid.
You can configure a second Rule to add another layer of
testing to the field. For example, many taxpayers add dashes when entering
their SSN. As a result, the field has more than 9 characters, and they are not
all numeric. A second Rule that begins with the Action "Remove dashes"
and then applies the three Actions listed above would accommodate this
variation. If any of Rule 1's Actions fail, it triggers Rule 2.
When two or more Rules are strung together in this way, it is
called a RuleSet. Like a Russian nesting doll, when you open a RuleSet, you see
a series of Rules, and when you open a Rule, you see a series of Actions. The
Actions do all the work, but the Rules and RuleSets make it easy to manage
those actions to accomplish your capture requirements.
Next month, we'll look at how to attach Rules to a document
and how to use various pre-configured Rules and RuleSets.
