The annual AIIM Expo is still the
largest imaging industry get-together, attracting end-users,
partners, press and analysts to the three day conference. This year, Datacap used
the occasion to unveil Taskmaster 7, a major new version of
its data and document capture software.
The initial reaction from end users and the industry was very positive. Everyone agrees
that SOA is the wave of the near future and the Rulerunner
Service and Datacap Studio generated a lot of buzz. Also
noted were the new features in Taskmaster for Invoices that
enable handling of new invoice formats on the fly and
fool-proof line item capture.
A Nor'easter was whipping up chilly wet winds off Boston Harbor throughout the entire AIIM Expo, but that didn't slow
Datacap's Cycle Faster Benefit Program. For the past three
years, the annual imaging industry's marquee event has been the stage
for Datacap to bring together its ECM Partners to
raise awareness and funds for good causes.
Datacap and its partners are striving to donate
over $30,000 to the Lance
Armstrong Foundation and the Horace Mann School for the
Deaf and Hard of Hearing and other foundations. In
2007, the program will extend through the summer and conclude
at the ARMA Expo in October.
The First
Leg
The AIIM Time Trials took place in the Datacap booth, with heated action on the
virtual trainer, provided by International Bike (www.internationalbike.com), a
Boston-based bike center. All riders attempted the same
one-mile course, which ended with a grueling hill climb to the
finish line. The winners are:
- Fastest Individual Rider (Female)-
Sabrina Stratford, Captaris
- Fastest Individual Rider (Male)-
Alexander Goerke, Kofax
- Best Team Average- Fujitsu Image Products of America
- Best Team Participation - Visioneer
As a result of Alexander Goerke's and
Sabrina Stratford's outstanding performances, donations will be
made on behalf of their employers'
Kofax and Captaris to the Lance Armstrong Foundation and the Horace Mann School for the Deaf &
Hard of Hearing. Datacap applauds all those who rode for
the cause and made the competition so much fun. We also
thank all our sponsors for making this program successful.

Sabrina
Stratford posted the best Women's time with
coaching from Mark Litrell, also of Captaris, the number two
men's rider. |
The
Second Leg
The 2007 program is just
getting started! Supporters including Parascript, Captaris and DocuWare, are now pledging to
ride 400 miles over the course of the summer, raising $1 a
mile. Whether you're already a sponsor or just a person who cares,
you can get involved. Ride, donate or pledge a rider online
by visiting http://cyclefaster.datacap.com.
The Third
Leg
Become a sponsor or join us at the
ARMA Conference and Expo in Baltimore (October 7-10), where
there will be another set of Time Trials and more fun!
For a limited time, you can receive a
custom Cycle Faster cycling jersey. Simply make a donation to
LAF of $100 or more by visiting: http://cyclefaster.datacap.com.

Datacap Adds ABBYY FineReader®
Engine
Extends Recognition Choice in
Taskmaster 7
Datacap continues to add more capabilities to Taskmaster. Among the new
features of Taskmaster 7 is a recognition engine
from ABBYY, a leading provider of recognition
technologies. Datacap has licensed the ABBYY FineReader Engine to extend
the optical character recognition (OCR) functionality offered with an eye
towards serving more international customers.
"We are excited to be working closely
with Datacap to bring new capabilities to this market-defining
application," said Dean Tang, President and CEO of ABBYY USA.
"The comprehensive document recognition and conversion
capabilities offered by the ABBYY OCR engine will be a strong
complement to the forms processing flexibility offered by
Taskmaster 7."
The ABBYY FineReader Engine gives software
developers everything they need to develop state-of-the-art
intelligent data capture, document recognition, and document
conversion systems. It provides the broadest language support,
with over 190 languages for OCR, including the most recent
additions of Thai and Hebrew, and 92 languages for intelligent
character recognition (ICR).
"Datacap strives to provide customers
the freedom to choose from best-of-breed technologies, and
this partnership with ABBYY allows us to do just that," said
Scott Blau, Datacap CEO. "We selected ABBYY's FineReader OCR
Engine for its accuracy, stability and wide coverage of
languages. We now have the flexibility to broaden the
capabilities of our newest offerings with functionality that
sets the bar in the marketplace."

Visioneer OneTouchT Support
Scanning
into Taskmaster just got Easier
AIIM was also the setting for an
announcement that Datacap has created a certified link to
Visioneer's OneTouch Software. The OneTouch link to
Taskmaster simplifies the process of document image indexing
and forms processing and received a lot of interest in the
Datacap booth.
"One Touch will ease end-user
training and support in our joint distributed capture
solutions," said Scott Blau, Datacap CEO. "This dovetails nicely with
our new release, Taskmaster 7, which addresses ease of use and
simplification for customers and partners."
The OneTouch link to Taskmaster
enables users to process scanned documents in a single step
with their Visioneer or Xerox DocuMate scanner. Once the link
is installed and configured, the scanned documents will enter
the system in batches that are waiting indexes. The link
integration supports image processing via Taskmaster's
client/server, rules-based capture workflow platform.
"There is a growing trend among
enterprises of all sizes to implement more widespread use of
data-capture solutions as documents increasingly need to be
scanned to comply with the growing wave of regulations such as
HIPAA and Sarbanes-Oxley," said John Dexter, Director,
Business Development at Visioneer. "The strength of Datacap's
Taskmaster capture and forms processing software, coupled with
Visioneer's document imaging hardware, provides an
uncomplicated solution for companies to lower costs and
implement document scanning among workgroups, rather than just
in central organizations, where typically large volumes of
documents are scanned."
The OneTouch link to Taskmaster is
available through Datacap.

Tips and Tricks
Upgrading to
Taskmaster 7
Datacap Taskmaster is the first
client-server capture system controlled by procedural rules.
When it comes to upgrading to a new version, the first
question on anyone's mind is "How to save the rules
configuration for each application?"
Most existing rules-based applications will run in Taskmaster 7
unchanged or with minor updates. The basic procedure is
this:
- Back up all Application folders on
a separate server
- Unistall your current version of
Taskmaster
- Install Taskmaster 7
- Reinstall application folders plus any optional
components and customizations
Then you'll want to start working with Datacap Studio to
learn about Rulerunner Service. If you want to convert
your rules-based Tasks to Rulerunner Service, the Datacap
Studio Application Wizard will help you get
started.
